Ransomware is a type of malicious software that is increasingly targeting public safety agencies and crippling their ability to provide mission critical services. Several high-profile examples that have been in the news highlight the importance of preparing defense-in-depth solutions that are informed by the threat actors’ tactics, techniques and procedures. In this talk, we will explain the phases of the ransomware killchain, provide insight into our adversaries’ operational tactics, and suggest mitigation strategies to significantly lower the risk of impact.
Learning Objectives:
What the ransomware killchain looks like, how it is prepared and operated by APT groups on the dark web marketplaces, and the financial structures and symbiotic relationships of ransomware-as-a-service groups
What types of attacks are being used against public safety agencies (diagrammatic visualization of an attack against a PSAP)
What mitigation strategies and operational steps you can take to mitigate ransomware attacks in public safety networks
