UAS Program Manager
Brookhaven Police Department
Lieutenant Abrem Ayana is the Unit Commander of the Brookhaven Police Department Criminal Investigations Unit. In addition to his role leading the investigations unit, he has led efforts to incorporate new state-of-the-art technology that has made BPD a national model of law enforcement innovation. In October 2020, the police department gained council approval to implement a Drone First Responder (DFR) Program. Launched in April 2021, this program is the third of its kind in the nation to dispatch drones to calls for service often arriving before responding ground units. Under his leadership in October 2022, BPD implemented Live911, a new innovative technology that live-streams 911 calls directly to officers in the field. This technology gives responding officers vital information, such as caller location and tracking, when responding to calls for service. Lieutenant Ayana has been celebrated by his peers receiving department honors as BPD Supervisor of the Year in 2019 and 2022 and the Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police Supervisor of the Year Recognition for the metro Atlanta region in 2022. Lieutenant Ayana is a graduate of the Northwestern University School of Police Staff & Command Session #544.
