KS911 Coordinating Council
Michele Abbott is an experienced public safety professional recognized as an ECC leader nationwide. She has been the Director of Communications, Emergency Management, and Project Manager. In 2011, Governor Brownback appointed Michele to the first sitting board of the KS911 Coordinating Council. She was serving as the Council's Operations Chair from 2012-2019. In 2020 Michele was selected as the Council's first Communications | Training Coordinator.
Michele has been certified as a Registered Public-Safety Leader (RPL) through APCO International, Kansas Certified Emergency Manager, a FEMA-trained COML/COMU, and has served in numerous capacities on statewide boards and organizations.
Serving on the South-Central Homeland Security board since 2006, the Kansas SIAC Board since its development in 2005, the KS Chapter of APCO Board for 23 years, serving as 2nd, 1st Vice President, President, Past President, Vendor Liaison, and 13 years as the KS Executive Council Representative to APCO International.
Ms. Abbott is characterized as an early technology adopter in Kansas, being the Director of Hutchinson Reno County during the statewide implementation of the hosted 911 system. The first 911 center on the statewide ESInet was In August 2015, and the first center to turn on integrated text to 911 in November 2017.
