Robert Turner, President, CommSys
Robert Turner is a software company executive and technologist and has built CommSys into one of the leading component technology providers in the public safety software industry. He has an extensive background in public safety and law enforcement information technology.
After high school, he was a firefighter and a summer relief fire dispatcher in southern New Jersey. Subsequently, he earned a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering and Master's Degree in Computer Science from the University of Dayton (Ohio). In the early 1990s, he co-founded CommSys. He has been the president of the company ever since.
CommSys is a leading provider of CJIS middleware and integrated terminal access software.
CommSys has operated the ASAP to PSAP Service for The Monitoring Association, LLC (tma.us/ASAP) since 2012. He was involved with engineering and managing the ASAP Message Broker system that communicates alarm messages for the service. He sits on the ANSI/APCO Standards Committee for ASAP.
In 2013, he was elected to the Board of Directors for IJIS Institute. For 2017-2018 he was the IJIS Board Chair. In addition, he is the chairman of the IJIS Law Enforcement Advisory Committee and a member of the IACP CJIS Committee. He is an associate member of the Association of Public Safety Communications Officers (APCO) and the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP).
