Civilian response programs have taken the forefront in national conversations around transforming public safety. Denver is on the cutting edge of civilian response implementation with their Support Team Assisted Response (STAR) Program, sending civilian resources to low risk, low acuity 9-1-1 calls. In our presentation, we will discuss how an alternative response program fits into 9-1-1 procedures and how it compliments traditional public safety responses.
Learning Objectives:
• Participants will leave with an understanding of the processes and protocols associated with civilian response programs
• How to safely dispatch civilians to 9-1-1 calls that have traditionally been handled by first responders.
• Understand the obstacles associated with launching an alternative response model and how to problem solve around them.
