Training Technician Cobb County Dept of Emergency Communications Marietta, Georgia
Our life is a voyage, and we are the captains of our ships. Every moment, every opportunity of every day, holds the potential for us to either shipwreck or lead on with courage and consistency! In this session we will delve into the character traits that make us effective leaders and how we can make the most of those BIG and small moments to be valuable assets to our team. We'll explore some of the greatest “Life Lessons” I’ve learned from the best "Captains" I know on what it takes to lead from the forefront and the back. From knowing the value you bring just by entering the room to realizing that leadership is sometimes all about the smallest, simplest gestures. You will learn the value of appreciating that you are your own personal brand, and that in whatever position you are in, or whatever title you may or may not hold, you have the power to influence people and inspire change!
Learning Objectives:
To emphasize that leadership isn’t relegated to only individuals with formal titles or supervisory roles. Leadership is an attitude, a mindset, and the act of building character in both the big and small moments of our life. At any level of our career (whether we are Year 1 or Year 25), we can be demonstrating the character of a people-driven leader. Attendees will also learn that the greatest leaders are always constantly growing and reaching and striving for greatness. And they are often the biggest influencers or champions for change, positivity, passion, compassion, and innovation in their workplace.
To explain that the best leaders are often forged from chaos or crisis. They don’t just get tougher in the storm, but they champion for resiliency in the toughest of times, and they make those around them get stronger as well. It’s not enough to keep our own ship upright and let those around us shipwreck or lose their way. Attendees will learn that a central part of leadership is service to others; how we use our gifts or talents to build up those around us. Leadership is being selfless in the middle of the chaos.
Discuss how important it is to grow a network of resources and allies around us because we cannot be our own self-sustaining island. The most effective leaders recognize that they do not know everything or have all the answers, so they proactively choose to surround themselves with people that do know the answers. Attendees will learn that having the right people in your corner and in your social or professional network can help you to be the best “Captain” of your ship or crew.
