Come learn about a study of Waze and PSAP reports concerning crashes and roadway hazards in Dallas/Fort Worth. The research was conducted by a joint team from UT-Austin and TAMU. The study found Waze crash reports came in sooner than 9-1-1 crash reports about 20% of the time and that Waze provided a richer and more timely source of roadway hazard reports. This presentation will cover findings and identify open research questions. It will identify some promising possibilities for using AI tools to mine Waze and PSAP reports to highlight roadway hazards most likely to trigger crashes requiring emergency response.
Learning Objectives:
Learn how crowd sourced data through a third party provider can enhance 9-1-1 response.
Hear about extensive research and the findings of this study that validates the usefulness of providing traffic information to a 9-1-1 ECC.
See how AI was used in this project and how it could be useful in analyzing data and identifying trends.
